"The ScallyWags" are a comedy troop that performs pirate shows, ad-lib shows, street performing , educational programs and combat shows at renaissance festivals, scouting events, schools, private parties and other events.
We have multiple shows ranging from kids shows to all adult pub shows we perform . Most of our shows involve an important audience participation aspect...this guarantees that we still have at least one person left to watch us at the end of the show.
The group started performing in 1998, after spending countless years as patrons and participants at numerous festivals. The original cast "The Scallywags and the Pirate Wench" consisted of four best friends that helped develop a craze for slapstick jokes delivered by men wearing tights and women in leather. We are very proud that we are one of the longest running pirate comedy acts in the U.S. The ScallyWags also established the all pirate re-enactors guild "The Freebooters of the Flatlands" in 1998. The Freebooters members helped The ScallyWags perform at many fairs, dinner parties and other events where there was free booze to be found. In 2001 an increased number of performance requests allowed the ScallyWags to recruit additional members for touring shows.
We enjoy a very busy year-round tour calendar, but are also open for new performance opportunities. The group performs throughout the United States and has been recognized as one of the top comedy troupes on the renaissance circuit. In 2007, We started to develop our first DVD, starred in a couple of TV shows, started delivering our comedy content on the web, and were recognized by Renaissance Magazine (our trade magazine).
