Since Harold's death the Blue Notes continue on performing their great hits like "Bad Luck," "I Love I Lost," If You Don't Know Me By Now," "Don't Leave Me This Way," "Wake Up Everybody," "Tell The World," and "Where Are All My Friends."
Philadelphia's native son, HAROLD MELVIN, has been synonymous with nearly a score of BLUENOTES. Today, that lineup includes: Rufus Thorne, Anthony Quarterman, Dwight Johnson, and William Spratley.
HAROLD MELVIN, the focal point of the group, was born in Philadelphia and started his singing career at High School functions, on street corners, and in nite clubs in the area. His first recording MY HERO which is now a collector's item, led to a string of hit records.
In 1971, the group signed with PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL RECORDS, and received a string of Platinum and Gold hits. Those hits included such classic songs as BAD LUCK; IF YOU DON'T KNOW ME BY NOW; I MISS YOU; WHERE ARE ALL MY FRIENDS?; I SHOULD BE YOUR LOVER; HOPE WE CAN BE TOGETHER SOON; WAKE UP EVERYBODY, and many, many more.
During the past years, HAROLD has launched the careers of many stars such as Teddy Pentergrass, Billy Paul, Bunny Sigler, and Sharon Paige.
Last year in their native town of Philadelphia, HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUE NOTES participated in a great special on all the networks. It was a special "Tribute to Nat King Cole". Harold has received many prestigious awards, including citations for his service and work in the arts.
As far as HAROLD MELVIN is concerned, the BLUENOTES are a way of life. He enhances that life by keeping abreast of musical trends. He, along with many other artists, often spends nights humming out a song, writing a song, or in his home recording studio producing a song. Harold has produced many works including THE BLUE ALBUM.
Although the BLUE NOTES went through many personnel changes since they first began singing on Philadelphia street corners years ago, their style remained virtually the same before Harold's untimely death earlier this year.
