It was in 1983 that Howard Jones released his first single "New Song" in the UK. The expectation was that it might sell a few thousand copies and introduce his fresh new music to an unsuspecting world. The reality was quite different. The single steadily climbed the UK chart to peak at No.3.

Then came the second single "What Is Love?" and the first album Human's Lib which came straight in at No.1 in the UK eventually going platinum. This success spread across the globe with Human's Lib going gold in the USA, Japan, Germany, Italy and Australia.

The second album Dream Into Action was even more successful spawning a series of hits "Like To Get To Know You Well," "Look Mama," "Things Can Only Get Better" and the classic "No One Is To Blame" which reached No.1 in the US singles chart and has since had over 2 million radio plays in the USA.

This was followed by three more albums One To One (1987), Cross That Line (1988) and In The Running (1992) all three of which were accompanied by successful world tours. The 1992 single "Lift Me Up" taken from In The Running album went top ten in the USA. In 1993 the Best of Howard Jones was released which together with the previous albums saw Howard's total world album sales exceed seven million.

Since then Howard Jones has been very busy. In 1993 he embarked on a one man synthesizer world tour which covered Europe, USA/Canada and ended in early 1994 in Japan. Howard recorded an album for this tour entitled Working In The Backroom which was unique in that it was never made available in stores and could only be obtained at Howard's live shows. This continues to be the case.

Early in 1996 Howard's first live album Live Acoustic America was released in the USA and Europe. This was a classic live recording of a concert in Los Angeles taken from The Acoustic Tour which featured Howard on grand piano and Carol Steele on percussion. This album was released in Japan in January 1997.

Then in April/May 1996 came yet another major tour of the USA and Canada again using the acoustic setup with just Howard on piano and Carol Steele on percussion. This turned out to be another highly successful Howard Jones tour with some astonishing gigs, particularly in LA, New York, Toronto and Salt Lake City. The concert in Salt Lake City was to over 4000 people. Earlier that day Howard did a Salt Lake City in store where over 1000 people were waiting in line. The store had stocked up with over 800 CD's but were completely sold out of every Howard Jones CD in the store (including back catalogue) within the first hour.

In July 1996 Howard appeared at the Mosport Music Festival in Toronto to over 50,000 people with a return to the one man synthesizer set-up. With only 45 minutes available he only had time to do the hits. Inevitably it went down a storm.

November 1996 saw a long anticipated tour of Italy which was again a great success. This was followed in December by one of the most ambitious concerts of Howard's career. Howard put together a 15 piece band for a special one-off concert at London's Bloomsbury Theatre, which included Pino Palladino on bass, Luis Jardim on percussion, Howard's brother Roy Jones on vocals, and a string quartet. The performance was entitled 'The Angels and Lovers Concert' and the band was named The Howard Jones Electric Orchestra. The sold out show featured nearly all new songs from Howard's forthcoming new studio album Angels & Lovers.

Howard had been writing and recording Angels & Lovers throughout 1995 and 1996 in between all the touring and other commitments. This superb new album was co-produced and co-written by Andy Ross and mixed mostly by Bob Clearmountain.

There was great anticipation of this album which marked a new era for Howard Jones. The album was released on Pony Canyon in Japan in August 1997 and elsewhere in the Autumn of 1997.

Track one, "If You Love" has already appeared in the American TV series Party of Five and on the Party of Five soundtrack album for Reprise. "If You Love" on the Party of Five album was an early version of the song and is different to the one on the Angels and Lovers album. Another track from the album "Dreaming On" has been featured in a Japanese TV drama entitled The Gift which was watched by over 10 million people. The song is the opening track on the soundtrack album for The Gift. The classic "No One Is To Blame" is featured in the 1997 Disney feature film Romy and Michelle's Highschool Reunion and appears on Volume 2 of the Romy and Michelle's Highschool Reunion soundtrack album.
