What You Need To Know...

Kim Mitchell began his uniquely distinguished career as leader, singer, guitarist and songwriter of MAX WEBSTER, Canada's quintessential art rock band of the 70's. In its six album history MAX WEBSTER garnered gold and platinum success on every record and extended its devoted following beyond Canada to Europe and the U.S.

But the best was yet to come with Mitchell's solo career that has surpassed expectations and earned him the titles of "Rock Legend", "Canada's Guitar Hero" and "Canada's favorite rock star".

In 1984 Kim crafted one of the top albums of the year with Akimbo Alogo. This outstanding double-platinum (200,000+) debut album generated several hit singles including the chart-topping anthem "Go For Soda". The song was not only a summertime classic and a request of Miami Vice as a lead-in track, but also became the adopted theme song for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), manifesting proceeds and profile for the American wide organization of over 60,000 members. To this day the song remains the choice of both MADD and SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) and has been the theme song of many First Night New Year's Eve events throughout North America.

In support of Akimbo Alogo, Kim embarked on what became the most extensive touring schedule of any Canadian act that year. Six months and 50 markets later, Kim had performed to over half a million eager fans. The headlines confirmed his incomparable support: "Mitchell Mania", "Canada's Beloved" and "The Axeman Cometh".

Kim's next album, Shakin' Like A Human Being, transcended his earlier successes and yielded three Top 5 national hits. They included Patio Lanterns, a song that topped the charts in the summer of 1986 and broadened his appeal to both young and old alike. A triple-platinum phenomenon (300,000+), Shakin' Like A Human Being not only earned Kim the titles of "Toronto Male Vocalist Of The Year" and Music Express' "Working Class Hero", but also the coveted JUNO Award in 1987 for "Album Of The Year".

In 1988 Kim was again awarded - this time as a live attraction. Kingswood Music Theatre, north of Toronto, presented him with its first ever Platinum Ticket Award to celebrate 100,000 tickets sold over a five year period. This coincided with another first: Kim performed three capacity concerts at the park, surpassing his own attendance record and those of ZZ Top and Sting.

Kim's third studio album, Rockland, was released in August of 1989 and landed three Canadian hits, Rock 'N Roll Duty, Rocklandwonderland, and Expedition Sailor. Supported by the most successful Canadian tour of the year Rockland lived up to its promise of being the biggest album in Kim's career to date.

On March 18, 1990, Kim performed the first single from that album, Rock 'N Roll Duty, live on the Juno Awards' national television show. It was a stunning live performance that preceded his winning the 1990 Male Vocalist Of The Year award.

May 1990 saw the release of the high fidelity live album I Am A Wild Party mixed by Mike Fraser. It included many of Kim Mitchell's greatest live songs, as well as two previously unrecorded concert favorites, I Am A WIld Party and Deep Dive. Wild Party became yet another hit video and single, and the record became the third Canadian live album in history to surpass the platinum mark! It also helped to fuel Kim's biggest tour ever and his profile coast to coast landed him yet another nomination for "Canadian Entertainer Of The Year" at the 1991 Junos.

April 1992 saw Mitchell releasing his fourth studio album Aural Fixations. Expanding his musical vocabulary with a variety of co-writers including Andy Curran and Moe Berg, the album spawned the hit singles Find The Will, World's Such A Wonder, and America which held the #1 spot on the singles chart for over 6 weeks. Aural Fixations also marked the re-introduction of Kim's music into the US market and spawned a record deal for all Europe through SPV Germany.

In July 1994 the stage was set for the release of Kim's sixth recording, ITCH. Reunited with lyricist Pye Dubois after a one album break and armed with a renewed creative energy, Kim added producer Joe Hardy to the fold and punched in the afterburners, recording his most sonically vibrant studio recording to date. Scant weeks from the release date, tracks were shooting onto radio and into video rotation like burst from a roman candle in the night sky - most notably Acrimony, Lemon Wedge, Wonder Where & Why, and the ballad US Of Ache.

Kim Mitchell's 7th album, titled Greatest Hits is exactly that: 13 tracks of classic Kim. Not content to offer just a definitive collection of Mitchell music, Kim has added 2 new songs, No More Walking Away, co-written with Pye Dubois, and Rainbow, co-written with Andy Curran. As well, Greatest Hits features new recordings of Lager & Ale, Patio Lanterns, and an alternative take of Expedition Sailor. The ultimate party album, it includes the tracks Rock 'N Roll Duty, Rocklandwonderland, Go For Soda, Lemon Wedge, Acrimony, Easy To Tame, I Am A Wild Party, All We Are and more, guaranteed to be equally compatible with any sound system, no matter where the party is!
