Big Mike
Big Mike, New Orleans native, started rapping at the age of 12.”Man, one day I just started going and people were like damn that youngsta got something real”, recalls Big Mike. Three years later, he moved to Houston, Texas with some relatives and began perfecting his rapping skills. At age 19, Big Mike’s demo was heard by John Bido, producer for Rap-A-Lot, who saw his raw talent and potential and put him in a group called “The Convicts”. After the release of The Convicts self entitled cd, Big Mike went on to record under the close supervision of mega producer, Dr. Dre who was with Def Row Records at the time. In 1993, Big Mike joined Houston’s most famous and successful rap group, The Geto Boys. Together they released the cd, Till Death Do Us Apart, with Rap-A-Lot Records, which went Gold +. With the enormous sales and exposure of that cd, Big Mike’s popularity skyrocketed, setting the stage for him to launch his solo career. “I was real optimistic and excited about the future”, says Big Mike of how he felt on his success as a solo artist. “Playa Playa”, one of the biggest songs of the 90’s went Gold+ and caused Big Mike’s first solo album, Something Serious, to be recognized nationally and sell many units. With his place in the rap game solidified, a chain reaction of hits, and popularity that was unreal, Big Mike released two more solo projects; Still Serious, which was released with Noo Trybe Virgin Records in 1996 featuring the smash hits “All a Dream” and “Burbans and Impalas”; and Hard to Hit, which was released with Rap-A-A lot Records in 1999 featuring the single “Hustlers”. Big Mike has recorded music for numerous movie soundtracks like Dangerous Minds (“Having Things”), Sunset Park (“All of it”), Panther (“The Points”), and Ride (“Game”). Back from a short prison term with a new recording deal and a new cd, Nawlings Phats, set to release in October 2005. His first single, “Fly N Brand New” is getting rave reviews and gaining national attention giving all indication that Big Mike is back and taking no prisoners. When asked about his return he said, "I’m just looking forward to getting back out there and re-establishing myself as one of the best in the game"
