"Mo Thugs is going to be the next Motown," Krayzie Bone says. "That's how we're doing it, taking the wisdom from the masters. We're making music that's real, music that people can relate to. It's this commitment to music that delivered Mo Thugs Records' first release, Mo Thugs Family Scriptures, to the top of the charts, debuting on the Pop Album chart at #2 (following the #1 debut of Tupac's Makaveli) with Soundscan sales of a million plus. The Mo Thugs label is family owned and operated. Through their deal with Relativity, they benefit from solid distribution and marketing and promotion know-how. The label is a reflection of Bone's musical and life philosophies. Although they may be a platinum group, the members check their egos at the door. They work on improving their own skills as they interact with the groups they've signed to Mo Thugs. Bone makes a point to give their artists room to grow. Many of the artists contributing songs to Family Reunion were encouraged by Krayzie to produce their own tracks. When needed, Layzie and Krayzie were right there in the studio with them to provide more hands-on input. The result is a refreshing compilation of creative artistic expression. "We stayed in the studio with the newer artists from beginning to end to make sure that they were comfortable with the recording process," Krayzie says. "We all worked on this album nonstop, together as a family." Known for representing Cleveland to the fullest, Bone reaches outside their hometown for talent on Mo Thugs Family Scriptures Chapter II: Family Reunion. MT5, five brothers from Dallas, sent Bone a demo and later auditioned for them backstage at a bone concert. Much like Bone's own audition for Eazy-E backstage at one of his Cleveland concerts which landed them on Eazy's Ruthless label, Bone were impressed by MT5's talent and immediately signed them up to Mo Thugs. The young quintet contributes an R&B classic, "Believe," singing of the love and respect they have for women, featuring equally respectful lyrics from Layzie Bone and Krayzie Bone. Krayzie Bone connects with Wisconsin soul sister Felecia for the highly addictive sure-fire hit single, "All Good." She, too, made an impromptu audition for Bone at another of their concerts. "Everybody was hush, hush as soon as Felecia started singing backstage. Then she came and sang in the lobby of our hotel and everybody was hush, hush again." "We can relate to everybody if you're coming real and your mind is set on what you want to do," Krayzie says. "Whoever comes with the raw talent, if you're sweet, we're going to sign you." Through the ups and downs as well as the music industry, Bone and Mo Thugs Family stand strong. Like any tight-knit group, they remain loyal and dedicated to one another and to their business goals. "We go through problems like a real family" says Krayzie. "We might fall out in the process and not speak for a while, but it all works out. We work as a family, pray as a family and we're going to stay together as a family."
