Alison Arngrim

Alison first began volunteering at AIDS Project Los Angeles in 1986. Her duties have included working on the Southern California AIDS Hotline and the APLA food bank, (APLA's Necessities of Life Program). She was also chairperson for the steering committee of the volunteer speakers bureau. She has provided AIDS education to nurses, inmates at women's prisons, service clubs, churches, department stores and schools. In 1988, she co-developed a workshop on "How to Negotiate Safer Sex".

Alison attended the Fifth International AIDS Conference in Montreal, as well as the Sixth Annual National Pediatric Conference in Washington, D.C. and has spoken before the Presidential Commission on AIDS.

She was the first woman to receive the "Friend in Deed" award at APLA, she also received the "Celebration of Life" Award from South Bay Friends of Aid for AIDS and in 1992, Joel Wachs presented Alison with a resolution by the Los Angeles City Council commending her on her work on behalf of people living with HIV and AIDS.

From 1989 through 1993 she served as Program Manager at Tuesday's Child, an organization assisting children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. She continues to serve on the Board of Governors of AIDS Project Los Angeles.

For the last six years, she has hosted the APLA television show, "AIDS Vision" and served as both MC and producer for the comedy stage at the AIDS Project Los Angeles Annual Summer Party. She has written articles for the magazines "Frontiers" and "Designers West."

In 1995 she produced and hosted an educational video for the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC), as part of an HIV prevention program for gay, bi and lesbian youth. She was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles.

Alison Arngrim is best known for her portrayal of "Nellie Oleson" on television's "Little House on the Prairie". Her friend and "Little House" co-star, Steve Tracy, died of AIDS in 1986.
